Inspire Week 2016:
Inspire week is a week long experience that High Tech High gives the entire sophomore class an opportunity to learn how to write a resume, prepare for college, how to pick a major that would best suite us, and how to prepare for a job. -May 31st 2016 through June 3rd 2016.
What I did and learned throughout Inspire Week:

Wednesday, June 1st 2016Today we started off class in the main commons. We had a workshop held by Evert Zelaya from on uncollege. He talked about his fear of public speaking and how he overcame that. He separated us into five groups based on how we interact in a group. I was placed in the “Radio” group because like a radio, I communicate to others what needs to be done and how we can do it. With others in the radio group we were given a task to “Place 10 people in a line and each person has to say the same sentence in a different language” the idea of the task was to see how well we work together when we all have the same strengths. We all worked pretty well together it was just hard to get 10 people to say the same sentence in different languages. Also, during this workshop we were told to go around Liberty station and ask people different questions and when they say no to tell ourselves it's okay. The point of this task was to deal with rejection. Apparently our brains tell ourselves that the word “No” makes us dumb or incapable or not normal. So we went around asking questions like “Can I have a piece of gum?” Or “Can you buy me some blueberries?”. The next workshop or class I went to was held by a prosecutor or a lawyer. The lady hosting it was a US Federal Prosecutor, she worked in Maryland on misdemeanors and federal cases. She talked about how life as a prosecutor is and how it affects your life. She gave numerous examples, and explained in great detail the tragic things we see in movies actually are real. She also shared us the good things about being a prosecutor, she said the fact that she gets to help place attackers and murderers in jail and they are no longer harming others is a very comforting feeling.

Thursday, June 2nd 2016Unfortunately I was unable to come to school today, but I followed up with a few of my classmates and they instructed me on something's I am to do today. One of the things I was told to do is go on Naviance and take a career survey. The survey asked me questions like “What is my favorite thing to do?” and “Do you like public speaking?”. I answered all the questions to the best of my ability and the results were for a career that best fits me. The results are as follows, “Government and Public Administration”, “Law, public safety, corrections and security”, and “Education and Training”, these are the fields that best suite me. I have to agree with it, I would like to go into the law field or the education field. These career paths relate a lot to my Personality quiz I took on Tuesday. After this I pondered what kind of internship I want for next year. In doing this I looked at the fields of study that were suggested, the one that stood out to me the most was a Lawyer. I went to a class yesterday that a US Federal Attorney/ Prosecutor was holding. Her job sounded interesting and something I wouldn’t mind going into. The fact that the quiz I took answered me with maybe becoming a Lawyer, I feel is no coincidence, I think that’s what I want and can do. I will be starting to write up my Internship Aspirations now and describe the Internship I want to have for next year. If my choice changes in the future (which I doubt it will) I will pursue education and seek to become a teacher!

Internships Aspiration:
In 11th grade at High Tech High we are given the opportunity to take up an internship of our choice. Coming from a traditional school in 10th grade I realize this is a opportunity not all students normally get to participate in. The 11th grade teachers have asked the current sophomore class to “plan ahead” and have encouraged us to seek out our areas of best interest now because we have plenty of time to prepare. The area’s of work I see best fit for me are a U.S. Federal prosecutor, a judge/magistrate or the education field. The two career paths I currently would like to take are Federal Prosecutor and Chief or District Judge. I have researched a few locations that I could possibly intern at/for next year (they are as follows), The Office of District Attorneys on Broadway, Judges of the Southern District of California Office on West Broadway, or San Diego’s Attorney's office off 3rd avenue. I would really like to work with Chief Judge (Hon.) Barry Ted Moskowitz, District Judge ( Hon.) Marilyn L. Huff, or D.A. Laura E. Duffy. Honestly, anyone who has experiences in these fields, someone who can give me rock star advice and help me, help myself reach my goal. I want to watch different cases be solved, learn how and why these things happen and work. If I can take one thing away from my internship then I will be more than satisfied. The fact that someone is taking time out of there life to let me intern with them is enough and would be most appreciated, and that is my ideal Internship.
